Homework, Oh Homework

Homework, oh homework..... I hate you, you STINK!  For real.  It's now 8:45 and our oldest is asking me to check her homework.  All this after I taught all day and worked at my other job for 1.5 hours tonight.  I really hate homework.  She submitted what I thought was ok, but......it wasn't. I would fail 5th grade. :) Thankfully she can redo it, but that just means she's staying up later.  Tomorrow morning is going to be a bear.  Homework, oh homework..... I hate you, you STINK!

What do you think about homework?

  1. I have one that is self sufficient totally with homework and one that we totally stink at monitoring. I have a big mix of feelings about homework. As a teacher, I try to really protect family time. As a mama, I just don't want to deal with it at night. But I know we need to be respectful of what is happening too. Ugh. Homework. :)

    1. UGH is right!!!! I really don't like it as a teacher or as a momma. You're right, family time is so precious now more than ever!

  2. Ugh homework not fun memories. My son who is 13 loves to do his work and does it right away so it's one. My 16 year old daughter hates it and it is a literal nightmare each day. I understand the needs of homework, but oh man...not my favorite thing.

    1. I just wish we could let it all go. Let our kids be kids, even at 16. I know it's prep for college, but.... I still say.... no homework! :)

  3. I teach fifth grade and have been thinking about this lately. What constitutes homework? Work that doesn't get done in class or work that students have never had a chance to work on in class?

    1. Those are fantastic questions. I feel like it should be an extension of what you are working on in class so kiddos can do it independently. But then....... parents have to check it. I would seriously fail 5th grade today.

Here is a tweet that captures homework for me:

Christine Hertz‏ - No homework for my first graders- just encouraged to play and read. Childhood is too good to be missed. #vted
