Knee Deep in Opinion Writing

slice of life_individual

Have you ever sat down to write a story?
Writing stories is one of my favorite things to do.
Stories help the world to get a little glimpse of you.
They also help to free your mind of thoughts that are in your head.
When you write a story you can be whomever you want to be.
This is why I think you should sit down and write a story!

For the past few weeks we've been working on opinion writing, so I thought it would be fun to write a piece myself. :)

Panic!

slice of life_individual
OH NO!
I forgot my dress!
OH NO!
What am I going to do?!
OH NO!
I only have workout clothes with me!
OH NO!
I can't believe I did this!
OH NO!

This is how my evening was coming to a close yesterday. My friend/colleague and I were heading up to C-BUS (Columbus, OH) for a presentation.  I mean, WE were presenting and I FORGOT MY DRESS!!!!!  A hint of panic set in only for a moment when she said, "Let's go shopping!"  So this morning we looked a little matchy, matchy, but we didn't care!  There was a story and an adventure that was perfect for our Oral Storytelling Presentation today.

A Birthday Song

slice of life_individual

Tomorrow is my brother's birthday. Currently, he's overseas serving our country I'm not sure where. So today I sent him an email with the birthday song we sang when I was growing up.  We hardly sing it anymore because we typically have "friend" parties now and so the song is usually simple and sweet. Just typing the words to this song brought back so many happy memories for me. There is just something special about this birthday song.  In my mind, when I close my eyes, I can see (and hear) my whole family singing it.  My grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles, cousins, mom, dad, sisters, and brother. It was always a full house at parties and everyone sang it.  And when it was sung to you, you felt important.  If felt like this song was made just for you.  I have only heard one other version of this song when we were at a party last year.  It was a little different, but had similar parts. Without further adieu.... here's our Happy Birthday Song.

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday dear _______,
Happy Birthday to you!!!!

(deep breath)
So this is your birthday that's what I've been told
What a wonderful feeling you're now ____ years old. (hahaha fill in any number)
On the cake there'll be candles all lighted for you
And the WHOLE WORLD is singing,
Happy Birthday to you!

(nice and slow)
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday just.for.you.
Happy Birthday and may all your dreams come true!
As you blow out the candles
One light stays aglow.
It's the whiteness of your soul
Where ere you go!

ps... Our Christmas Tree is STILL up!!!! :)  I won (only because my husband was sick)... but I think it's coming down this weekend. Sad.

First Dare

slice of life_individual

Last week I revealed to the world (or really the few who read my blog) my OLW.  The word I chose to be life-changing this year for me is... DARE.  Tonight, is my first dare to myself.  I know for some of you this dare may seem silly, but for those who know me close, this dare is BIG.  I mean HUGE.... for me at least. :)  Today I am daring myself to keep the tv OFF.  I know it's a silly little dare, but I really love to wind down each night with a show or two or 5 depending on how much work I have to do. And now that the Hallmark Channel is one of our favorites, my dvr is almost at capacity. (Does anyone out there love those movies as much as my girls and I do?)  The other thing is, I'm usually watching tv, working on the computer, and/or texting family/friends.  So tonight my front room looks like this:

Yes, we still have our Christmas tree up!  It always makes me sad to take it down because it is just full of happiness.  I mean look at that decorating job.  I am blessed that Three Brown-Eyed Girls blessed us with this gorgeous tree. :)  (I don't think there are any ornaments on the back. hahaha) My hubby wanted to put everything away tonight, but I kind of avoided the question when he asked so it's still up, YAY!!!!!  It'll probably come down this weekend... maybe. My new dare: How long can we keep up our tree?!?!?!?! hahahaha

From my brown eyes to yours.....

I Dare You... OLW

Did you ever play that game?  You know the one where you say, "I dare you to_______ (fill in the blank here)".  Or to make it even more exciting you would say, "I double dog dare you to _____."  Then, to be a real game changer you might even break out the triple dog dare.  While this game was a childhood favorite or maybe nightmare, I remember saying these words to my sisters, brother and friends. The word dare meant to take a risk.  To do something you may be uncomfortable doing.  Or to do something that may just be absolutely crazy!

I kept going round and round about my word for this year since I know I fell a little short at living up to the expectation of my OLW from last year.  My first word I thought was going to be "it" was surrender.  But then I started to think... and think..... and think.  So with all that thinking, it wasn't the word for me.  Then, I was thinking about the book I need to start reading.  It's called The Happiness Dare by Jennifer Dukes Lee.  And that word jumped out at me.  Dare.  I'm going to work this word this year.

I'm going to Dare to:

be happy
try new things
spark love and excitement with my hubby
be supportive
surrender
see Jesus in all the people I come in contact with
be creative
write more
blog more
be spontaneous
be a supportive momma
be an example
point out important qualities in my girls
give compliments
experience life
enjoy the small moments
be still
listen to the quiet
try new foods
eat better
be positive

My list continues to grow, now I just need your help to keep on daring me to do things.
